Unique Antique Papermaking Set With 3 Mould And Deckles, Prints And Printmaking Equipment

A unique set of paper-making equipment with three different sized moulds and deckles with hardwood frames and brass mesh, along with a wide variety of printing equipment and two sheets of hand-made paper. The mould and deckles each have the logo ‘RAPID’ for producing a watermark. The term Rapid refers to a papermaking company in Melbourne, Australia in 1920s and the whole set belonged to Roger Daniels , who wrote a book entitled ‘Rapid: a Private Paper Mill’ in Australia which was published with a very limited number of copies ( we believe there were about 15). The equipment includes several metal stamps, two carved wooden stamps and a number of metal printing blocks and presses. Amongst these is a beautiful printing block of Samuel Johnson taken from a printed picture. In the collection are two pieces of handmade paper and a print of ‘Wilshire’ ‘Reproduced for Display and Training Purposes by 42 Survey Engineer Regiment’ which has detailed pictures of the county and Stonehenge and Salisbury. There is also an abstract geometric painting, dated 8/1/1960. On the outer box there is a hand-written note saying Graham Marsh Pictures etc but we can find no connection with this picture to this artist. There are also four hand-typed treatises on Enoch Wood, a Papermaker which appear to be drafts for a book, and include fascinating detail on the life of a papermaker in the late 18th Century.
